We started designing this project with the clients January of 2014. This was built in 2 stages; pool and landscape then the structures. The clients had a very good idea of what style they wanted to reach but needed our expert advice on how to fit all of their must haves in a small space. The list included:

• A 14’x16’ Solarium
• A covered lounging area
• A covered barbecue area
• A pool
• A pool house
• A sitting area
• A hot tub
• Privacy from neighbours

In a 60’x40’ backyard with 30” grade drop and 8 steps needed to get in the house, this was a challenge, a challenge that we gladly accepted. In order to break the grade, we created 2 main levels in the backyard; Main level and pool level. The main level includes the solarium, deck, hot tub and sitting area. The solarium we built has one full wall in order to create some privacy from the neighbour and the façade and right wall are all windows. We also created a 6’ roof overhang on the façade of the solarium to create a covered barbecuing area. All the windows and doors were custom painted, the soffit used is a wood imitation aluminum soffit and the inside is all porcelain tile, making it maintenance free. The deck constructed of Azek decking and glass railings allows access from the solarium and the house to the spa level and to the main level. Each step is illuminated making the deck accessible any time of the day.

The pool is 12’x32’ vinyl with a natural stone surround. To keep the same look as the solarium, we designed the pool house with a big roof overhang which also creates a covered lounging area beside the pool for those hot summer days. With the slanted posts, custom stucco work and wood imitation aluminum soffit, the pool house’s look has surpassed all of the client’s visions.
We believe that this project is an award winner for many reasons. The design of the landscaping reflects the contemporary look that the clients wanted to reach. It also allowed for all the client’s desired spaces and structures to be implemented. Our team worked hand in hand with the clients to make their dreams a reality they can escape to every day.
